And what about the human watching the herons?
That would be me 🙂 Altea Narici, artist and performer, born in Italy in 1995, traveling since 2018.
I have been fascinated by stories, music and drawing since I was little. Specializing in cello playing, later on attending university as well, I got used to consider my other passions some side-occupations, just something I had fun scribbling and drawing in the corners of notebooks and birthday cards every now and then.
In 2018 I finished my studies and decided to travel for a while. Thanks to this time I’m dedicating to both geographic and imaginative exploration, I realized that what I like to do happens mostly in-between artistic disciplines and I wanted to give a space to it.
Stories are powerful creatures. As I started traveling, meeting new people and sniffing my way around, I realized the stories I told about myself had become somehow constrictive during my student years. I saw how much difference they could make in the way I live, and make choices.
I decided I would do my best to take up the pen, get on a new page, and start writing of more spacious creative habitats for myself.
As I keep on traveling, I’m now telling my stories using different media. I still consider myself a performer mainly, and love to do concerts for cello and voice, presenting mixed programs of both classical, and original music composed by me.
I love creating characters and scenes in an illustration-style, usually inspired by the natural world.
Poems and short tales often jump out of the hat too…
A big moment for me came in late January 2020, when I arrived to the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Oregon, for my first residency across the Ocean as an invited artist. I found myself surrounded by other artists at different points of their careers, I started engaging with the local community, I found inspiration in every second and spot of a marvelous land and I realized, I was on my ground.
“A heron on the roof” was created to finally bring all my creative work together in the same place. Images, sounds, words: somewhere between a creative fair and a space for self-reflection, to share my work with the world and keep in touch with friends and art-mates around the globe.
I also hope it can be a space for creative encounters, maybe a starting point for new collaborations… so don’t be shy, if you have an idea or proposition, it will be great to hear from you!
I wish you all visitors a pleasant time sailing in this corner of the net. May the winds be fair and the crew light-hearted…& hopefully see you somewhere on the way!
